Mazda Rx4 Model Kit!!
Just got this in the mail!
Being a rotary fanatic im so happy to finally have an rx4 model! ![]() Its missing the interior but pretty but the whole body is there, its broken in two almost . so its going to be a restoration project. Wasnt exactly as described, but i think i can get it to a decent level with time and alot of patience. Seeing as the model is missing half the interior, and slightly damged, ill probably look at tubbing it than going for the standard look. Keep an eye out for it. picked it up from ebay for $37US which isnt too bad cosidering complete kits of these usually sell for over 2-300us! Ill be posting pics up as i go. all i need is an r100 model and the Mazda Rx collection of rotors is complete. although with the price of those kits, doesnt look like ill be getting one anytime soon Anyone else have n rx4 model completed!? |

Re: Mazda Rx4 Model Kit!!
Great find
I've only seen one of them in the past 25 years at a model swap meet, and I bought it! Was about $10 back in '81 or '82 when I found it. They were rare kits when new in the '70's. I primed it and filled a few sink marks, gave it to a rotorhead friend, and got it back last year. Some day I'll build a model of my 1:1 RX4 coupe that I owned from '81-'84 and really wish I still had it. I may also use it as rough patterns to do a major conversion of a '71 Johan Maverick or Comet which is undoubtedly where Mazda got much of their styling ideas from. I've only ever seen one R100 kit, and bought/gave it to my aforementioned friend who owned the 1:1 and built his kit. He also has most all the 1/20 Bandai rotaries (except the RX4 ), including a couple from the '80's (Cosmo coupe and Luce sedan) I bought at a Japanese toy store in LA in the early 80's.One of these days I'm taking Fujimi's RX3 late model and doing the US spec '77 RX3 SP. Here's a cool vintage RX3 conversion of the new Fujimi kit I saw that someone showed this past weekend from the big Toledo, Ohio model car show. Car & Driver's Bonneville salt flats racer:

i could sit here crying out how much i want the r100 kit of yours, but i wont.
Ill just sit here silently with the tears falling down my cheek Ive seen the rx4 kit once or twice on ebay before, bith times selling for over 2-300 US, when this one popped up, being damaged and missing parts. i didnt care. I was happy as i knew it wasnt going to go for a ridiculously high price!. There was an r100 kit on ebay a couple of weeks ago which went for $660US .ive got the cosmo, rx2, rx3 rx4, rx5, rx7 (all generations) and 787b kits in teh mazda range. As you can see you r100 kit would lokk very nice in between all of those. |

Re: Mazda Rx4 Model Kit!!
If it makes you feel any better, I don't own or have the R100 kit; I gave it to my friend long ago and he built it like the one he owned for a short while. It's the only one of those kits I ever saw.
I do have a mint/unbuilt Bandai/Entex 1/20 Fiat X1/9 that I'm selling soon, hopefully it brings the same sort of price that the RX's have been going for
