additive for steering fluid????
my steering wheel sticks in the am on the first few turns until warmed up. but now a rare stick mid drive. shop says its a $400 fix. mech pulls me aside and says there is a additive for some Fords and Chevys that were used post factory to fix same problem, maybe Chrysler did same thing - he just doesn't know.
I can't get dealer to answer question - imagine that. anyone know where to get or what it is???? |

Re: additive for steering fluid????
I think I would first take it to a place that can flush the power steering system and get it done. BG makes a good machine that does it, several local dealers and shops use them in our area. Find a shop at bgfindashop.com. I had my brakes and power steering flushed and it was amazing the gunky fluid that came out of both systems. A wonder they were still working. I think that just looking for an additive to dump in on top of a bunch of old dirty fluid is not going to do anything lasting.

Quote:
Stretch, Good suggestion. The Haynes manual has got a procedure for flushing the power steering fluid that’s something like: 1.)Un-plug power steering drain; 2.) Move steering wheel back and forth; 3.) Do this while continually pouring in power steering fluid. Best Regards, Stan |
