which add more hp?

i have done some research but not much and i was wondering, all variables aside, which generally add more horsepower? since they seem to run about the same price for all hardware, which is more worth the cost? thanks

Re: which add more hp?

Umm, what exactly? lol I'm assuming your talking about turbos and superchargers, they're definitely not around the same price. A good turbo set up will run you about $5000+, a GM supercharger will run you about $2500. And it's probly a hell of alot easier to install compared to a turbo. As for the hp gains I don't know.

VERY good question
if this is gonna be another super/turbo argument, ill get my opinion in before the thread turns into 10 pages,

as far as which adds more horsepower? if you take a turbo putting out 5 lbs of boost, and a super putting out the same 5lbs of boost, i would guess the turbo would add more power, since it doesnt rob 20-30 horsepower from your engine to operate, i woudlnt say one is better then the other, it just depends on the application at hand

edit: also, there is no GM supercharger for your engine
(im assuming you have the 2200 since its a 98 with a quarter mile time of 17.5)

Re: which add more hp?

depending on what you wanna call a "good turbo setup" you can build a turbo setup for your car for as little as 1500 and mabye even cheaper. depending on quality, what you wanna spend, how much time you wanna put into it, and your knowledge of turbos/superchargers/cars in general

Also 5000 dollars for a turbo setup is a little much for a cavalier, i think your goin to overdue it. isnt the perfect turbo for a cavalier 2200 or 2.2L Ecotec like a T3/t4 hybrid or sumething? runs like 400 bucks

Advise? NOOOOOOOOOOO CAVALIER. dont do it

This is really getting old man, you should just put something like that in your sig because you say it in EVERY fucking post you put up. He didn't ask your opinion on wether or not it's worth putting it in a Cavalier.

Re: which add more hp?

I paid about 1500 for my setup and I still have to get a new downpipe, hi-flow cat, 2 oil flanges, bigger injectors and a bigger pump, so grand total about 2 grand maybe?

Re: which add more hp?

So forget the super idea and go with a nice turbo setup. Sure you can get one for pretty cheap but most likely the parts are going to be cheap and end up breaking and costing you more money down the road. So if you really want to boost your car spend the 2500-3K on a good turbo and be on your way.

Re: which add more hp?

There are plenty of turbo v. s/c threads. Do a search.
