Passlock bypass - feedback needed
I'm having lots of difficulty with my '01 Grand Am SE (3.4L) and the Passlock system. It's becoming unbearable to have to sit and wait for 10 minutes every 4-5 times I try to start my car and it's time I get off my butt and address it. I've tried my other (much newer) key and it didn't do it for about a month, and now it's at it again.
I've read several threads here about differing opinions as to how best to handle it. I can take it to the dealer and have them replace the lock cylinder which may or may not have a recall, or I can try the 'ol "cut the yellow wire while the engine is running and install a toggle switch" thing. For obvious financial reasons this looks like the way to go, but I'm curious to hear some feedback from people who have done this. Is it really that simple of a fix? The way I read it, with the switch off (contacts open) Passlock is disabled, the car always starts, the security light stays on (which I can live with). Am I missing something else that I should know before I go ahead and try this? And under what circumstances would I want to turn the switch back on (wire is connected) ? Are there any other associated risks I should know about? The last thing I want is to end up with a car that I can't get started at all. I really appreciate anyone's advice.

Re: Passlock bypass - feedback needed
Another question where I wonder if I'm interpreting things correctly... does having a remote car starter circumvent the passlock system? Would you consider this a fix? Thanks again.

Re: Passlock bypass - feedback needed
The dreaded security light problem....so persavisve in the gm post. what a pain this thing is!!! Still havent fixed mine...I have been doing the 10 min wait, for a while now...I hear it cost upwards of $400.00 to fix by replacing the tumbler and chances are...its just going to do it again...and gm will not recall! I have found a way of by passing it here on this site...the ole cut the yellow wire and toggle switch it....My question is? I will do that but has anyone experienced any issues with bypassing it in this way. Will it work? or when I cut the yellow wire with the car running will it die and will i be able to start it again or will I be Srew#@D after I cut it and have to tow it and pay gm the fortune they want to fix it anyway...any problems with this bypass or will it work? fem.
