Reap wiper motor - 1999 Passport
Anyone know if a motor from a '98 is the same? Ours has crapped out and I have two places nearby that each have motors from '98 for about $60.

Nevermind. I decided to not be such a lazy azs and checked the Autozone and Advance Auto sites. Cardone markets a reman motor for $80ish and the PN is the same for a '98 or '99. By the way, it has a "limited lifetime" warranty. I think I'll go that route unless I can get either of the used ones for around $40.

Make sure you also check relays for rear wipers. They can go bad and it make rear wipers inoperable.

Re: Reap wiper motor - 1999 Passport
I would bet its the relay too.
When my rear one stopped working I thought it was the motor until I started testing the relays to replace them. Relays are much cheaper then the motor, unless you buy a new box instead of doing a DIY repair. http://forum.planetisuzoo.com/viewtopic.php?t=5608

Re: Reap wiper motor - 1999 Passport
After much hunting, I finally found the relay box. I grounded my test light and proceeded to test the relay (horn works!). The rear wiper did not actuate at first, then it did, then it quit. I am still not sure if the realy is the culprit. I had to have my wife come and listen at the tailgate. When we opened the gate is when the motor started working (wiper arm is off). I thought maybe a braken wire at the gate hinge. But then it quit again with the door still open. ???
Edit: Also, after getting the relay and motor to "work" with the test light, I tried using the dash switch and that did not work. Last edited by Woowagon; 10-16-2006 at 12:19 PM. |

Re: Reap wiper motor - 1999 Passport
Gizmo, thanks for the excellent write-up. I ordered the relays and just finished installing one (two kept as spares). Rear wiper works just like before. I posted in the other forum about my experience. There are a few things different with my circuit board and relay locations on the board. But, the process is the same as you said.

Re: Reap wiper motor - 1999 Passport
Glad everything is working now. Relays are so much cheaper then replacing a good wiper motor LOL.

Re: Reap wiper motor - 1999 Passport
I have a 97 rodeo and now my rear wiper does not work at all. I checked the fuse and it was burnt out, so I replaced it. It still does not work. Where do you find the relay for the rear wiper. And where do you purchase a relay at?
