I'm assuming you have a 99 Sunfire. Your post has been moved to Chevrolet Cavalier GM J Body Problem Diagnosis.

Re: does my car TRULY need a fuel level sensor

Yup it quick working months ago.. I put gas in all the time and its fine. what I dont understand is how at first the computer at the dealership "read bad crank shaft positioning sensor.. they put new one in.. NOT THE PROBLEM. took it out put my old one in. then went after the ignition module.. NOT THE PROBLEM.. then check the fuel tank.. and say to me ..YOUR OUT OF GAS! Anderson Oldsmobile said that the computer read wrong because of faulty fuel level sensor.. Fuel level sensor with labor cost $808.67.. buy stock at that place!!!

Re: does my car TRULY need a fuel level sensor

At my work I could sell you a whole new freakin sending Unit and shebang for 300 ish bucks, give or take... Drop the fuel tank and swap n go... Not doin it your self will always get you a raping charge at a shop. Look at brake install prices. Dealership quote for whole new front end brakes and rotors was $350.

BAER Cross drilled and slotted Zinc plated rotors, Hawk HPS pads --- $212 installed myself. The dealership or shop usually give you low end pads like wearever sliver or gold... crap crap crap.

Re: does my car TRULY need a fuel level sensor

Yeah my gauge stopped working about a week after I bought the car, drove it like that until it blew a year later. I dont mind not having the gauge working I just go by the miles.

Re: does my car TRULY need a fuel level sensor

My feelings too regarding this fuel level sensor.. go by the miles if the gage doesnt work.. but the mechanic said " this fuel sensor tells other sensors thru out the car that fuel is on it's way; if it's (fuel sensor) is broke the other sensors will tag team and break also. My car shows signs of oil down inside the spark plug well. When my car stalled last thursday night, the oil light and battery lite came on.. but the mechanic said " the oil down there is not a concern, it happens. I'm in fear of driving this car, nothing makes sense anymore... any body have a 10 speed they want to sell.

Re: does my car TRULY need a fuel level sensor
