Fuel Gauge Problems?

HI Guys, Wife owns a 1998 Cavalier, 6cyl, 4-door Sedan, Problem is that the car keeps running out of gas even though its still reads 1/8th of a tank. Took it to Chevy Service Center, said its probably the SENSOR, qouted me $300 to fix. Question: Has anybody ever had this same problem & is it something I can Fix myself? Thanks, Rik

also my 94 does that, i'd just accept that 1/8th = empty and live with it. the sensor is in the tank.
