99 Ranger Voltage Meter Problem

I Got A 99 Ranger 2.0 L. I Went Threw Some Water Puddles And The All The Lights Went Dim And Came Back Up Again. Ever Since Then When I Use My Heater ,headlight, & Wiper Or What Ever Esle My Voltage Meter Drops When I Am At Idle. If I Give It A Little Gas It Comes Back Up And So On And So On.
I Checked Battery And All Terminals And Belts. I Am Thinking It's The Voltage Regalator Any Help Would Be Nice.
Thanks.

Re: 99 Ranger Voltage Meter Problem

Probably the alternator is failing. AutoZone can check it in place.

But first make sure the connector and terminal on the alternator are clean and secure.

Driving through a water puddle will often cause a serpertine belt to slip for a bit. This may have been just a coincidence.

Re: 99 Ranger Voltage Meter Problem

I don't know where you live but some local alternator shops will repair your unit a lot cheaper. I took one to a local rebuilder with 60,000 miles on it,and he installed a new set of rectifier for $55.00 advance auto wanted $128.00 for a rebuilt unit. They also know how to actually check a unit. It depends whos working when you go to auto zone. But then can tell if your charging.

Re: 99 Ranger Voltage Meter Problem

I think it bolts on the back of the alternator. When they checked the alternator. If you had over 14 volts the regulator should be good. At least it was that way on my 1997. If you have a voltmeter it should be around 14.2 to 14.4 with lights A.C. and ect. this is at idle.
How did they actually check your alternator.
