Water Pump???

i just bought an 88 jetta and the water pump is leaking so i need to change it. is it hard and do i have to do anything with the timing belt?

Forum is pretty old, but if anyone is wondering. My 86 Jetta 's water pump wasnt too too bad to replace, I did it myself. It was a pretty nasty job though. You dont have to mess with the timing belt it self, but rather just the cover of it (two bolts). Make sure to put the belts back in order, and read a repair manual as you go through it.
