2003 Passat Rear Brakes

Hello,

My grandfather purchased a 2003 Passat a couple years ago and he's been having some issues with rear brake wear.

According to him he's on his 3rd set and he's only got 25000 miles on the car.

The dealer told him everything is normal...

I'm no car expert, but to wear through two sets of rear brake pads in 25000 does not seem even close to normal.

Has anyone else had or heard of this problem, and do you know of any fixes?

Thanks,
CJ

Re: 2003 Passat Rear Brakes

I have heard of the rear brakes on these wearing out faster than normal, both my 2003's did it before I turned in the lease. Not as bad as yours, though. I got about 25000 on the wagon and 20000 on the sedan. I also talked to a co-worker who had a similar problem on her sedan. Hers also was around 20-25k. The rear pads on these are TINY. Probably too small. The fronts on ours didn't come close to wearing out before we turned them in. They had around 40k. I've NEVER had a car where the rears wore out first until the Passats. Drum or disc.
