Timing Belt
Hello All,
The owner's manual says change timing belt at 60,000 miles. How long have you gone before changing the timing belt. Surely they last longer than that. |

Re: Timing Belt
the thing with timing belts is that they may or may not last longer, but that is the best time to change it simply because, pushing cars to their limits and not doing maintenance can result in a failed timing belt, and then you have no engine.
now... you may be fine for a while, but if you simply do not change it, you are screwed. maintenance first, then modifications.

Re: Timing Belt
I was talking to my mechanic (toyota certified) and was asking him about the timing belt because I wasnt sure when it had been changed (if ever...ive got 103000 miles now). I went in at 100K you check and he said that he has yet to see a 6g72 motor that had a bad belt at 80-100K miles and told me to just get it done at 110-115K miles. I am not saying this is true in all cases, but my guy see's a lot of new sebrings/stratus's with the same motor and he says they all look good, and the belt is really strong for this motor. Just my 2 cents.
