New truck, looking for a little more performance and efficiency

I just got an 88 toyota pickup, 22R 4X4. When I got it the exhaust was completely busted at the bottom of the header. I was pretty unhappy with the power it put out and hoped a tune up would help. I replaced the cap, rotor, fuel filter and plugs which it desperatley needed. This got it idiling better bot no noticeable power gain. I also figured a lot of exhaust was escaping before the 02 sensor and maybe that would help so I welded the exhaust back together.
That deffinately lost me a few HP so an oversized exhaust is now high on the list.
I am thinking of going with a 2.5" any thoughts on this? It seems like a pretty good size to me. I am considering a low boost turbo setup for the future and I think that should still flow pretty well.

On that note any one think I could run 4 PSI on low octane gas on the stock motor?

Anyway back to now

I plan on doing intake and exhaust and I wanted to see what else there was on the cheap side of things.

Is it worthwhile to swap to an electric fan? It seems like that shaft driven fan must suck a couple HP.

So what else can I do to get more HP and better gas mileage?

Any other good Toy pickup forums?
