1998 3/4 Ton Brakes
Ok 1998 GMC Suburban 454 3/4 Ton 4X4
I am warping rotors, told that I need to replace the brake distribution valve and put bigger brake shoes on the rear. Does this sound right to anyone? It makes sense to me, but I have not seen it in any of the threads and was told it was a common issue in the ¾ ton, and GM came out with the new distribution valve to fix the issue. Thanks for the help

Re: 1998 3/4 Ton Brakes
Well, warping rotors is not all that hard. If you have to brake hard for a light say, the rotors will get real hot and expand, not much of course but enough to warp them as you hold onto the brakes (they cannot expand uniformly). I have an 1988 3/4 ton and I do not have warping problems, it does have a proportioning valve that controls rear brake pressure based off of suspension compression. With no load on I swear that the rear brakes seem to not work at all. Try to stop from a greater distance after all it is 5000+ pounds that you are stopping. One more thing. NO air guns on the front. Have whoever puts tires on and off to tighten the lug nuts down by hand and have then use a torque wrench to get them to spec. I do not listen to them when they say that their spring steel bar will not over tighten. After all you are the customer.
