1990-1996 Jaguar XJ6

I have been looking around lately for a new, used car.

I really do like the design of some of the older Jags, and I was considering looking into purchasing one. I have seen they don't run too expensive.

However, I don't want a car that is going to take me loads of money to dump into it, constantly fixing it. I have read many many review, and I can't seem to get a clear evaluation of these used Jaguars.

I have read reviews of consumers on Car Survey and Edmunds, besides a few, there seemed to be a pretty steady and consistent report of reliability on the Jag models, running through these years, specifically the XJ6.

However after asking around on some other websites, I have gotten answers such as

"Anyway I have heard they are reliable, is this true"-Me

Not even a little bit true. jags have among the most horrible repair records in the automotive industry.-Respondee

So truly what is it, is it a reliable car worth purchasing, or should I look at something else. If it is worth buying, and recommendations on a year that may fair better than another?

Transmission is bullet proof in these cars and the engine is equally bullet proof short of the head gasket issue. Once replaced it should last you for a few hundred thousand miles without a prob. look for 90 and newer for the better master cyclinder.
