Battery Light on Taurus 1994

Hi

My Taurus 1994 Sedan battery failed and I got it changed. Its a new Battery and now when I drive and press on the gas pedal the battery light glows. and it immediately goes off too.

I had a problem for some time that when my car cools down over night and strat and change to reverse gear, the battery light glows and once i change to drive, the light goes off. I didnt get this fixed.

Could someone please let me know how to solve this.

Thanks
Harold

Have the alternator checked. Might have a internal problem.

Re: Battery Light on Taurus 1994

Rarely will a battery cause the charging system indicator (aka "battery" light) to illuminate. This usually comes on because the charging system has an issue.

Make sure the drive belt for the alternator is in good shape and the belt tension is appropriate. If the belt is slipping, the charging system indicator will light.

If the belt is good and properly tensioned, then do as Fuely suggested and have the alternator tested.

Thanks for the suggestions.
When the battery was changed the Alternator was tested and found ok.
But today the battery light has started to light up when I change the gear to drive and then goes off when i have gone over 15. This battery light is very erratic that I am not able to tell anything for sure.

Does the light come back on if you turn on the headlights and the blower motor to high speed, increasing the load on the electrical system?

Re: Battery Light on Taurus 1994

Hi Rod,

Interesting today my car did not have the battery light glow. When i started the car all the light including battery came on and went off. But later it did not come on.

When i put on the head lights the battery light on the dash did not glow.

Only differnce is the weather has warmed up a bit. But other than that not changes.

Thanks
harold

Make sure both ends of the battery cables are clean and secure. Make sure all connections to the alternator are clean and secure. Was the alternator tested in the vehicle?

Re: Battery Light on Taurus 1994

Hi Kim

Since i am not a car mechanism literate person. I took the car to a garage and got the connector cleaned and one connector to the Alternator was changed and now the light has disappeared.

Thank you very much for the help
Harold
