engine is out now some questions.

me and dad are done taking out the egine now, we took it apart and found out that one the "half moon thingys' that goe where the crank connects with the rod moved and went on top of the other one. so that's why the engine wont turn over. now my questions are, would i be fine of i just replace those things and how do i order them(name)? also how do i tell if the engine is a 6 bolt? do i just count the bolts the hold the crank and clutch together?

heres is some pics. and a a litle video, you wont understand because it's in spanish, but it's basically me asking my dad what happend and just talking about what might have caused it to happen.

Re: engine is out now some questions.

Those "half moon thingys" are called rod bearings.

You cant just replace and you're done. You need to check everything to make sure it isnt screwed up. Have you or your dad ever rebuilt a motor before? If not I would suggest having the motor built for you and you put it back in the car or have whoever builds it put it in the car. That is just my suggestion due to the fact that if you dont do it right, it is more likely to fail right away so it would have been a big waste of time/money.

Count the number of bolts that hold the flywheel to the crank. That is what motor you have... 6 bolt or 7 bolt.

You most likely screwed up the crank and rods due to the fact that the bearings spun. So you will either need to get them machined or get new ones.

Re: engine is out now some questions.

Get rid of that 7 bolt shit. Might as well go 6 bolt, theres no better time to than now. Hit style, I am sure someone there has a spare 6 bolt. Chances are if the bearing spun around long enough to get on top of the other one there is significant damage to the crank and rod and quite possibly some nice scoring on the cylinder walls. I would sell of whats salvagable and save for a 6 bolt.

yeah, my asked me what i wanna do,i've looking at stuff that would be good to replace since the engine is out.
i was looking at the act 2100 from extremepsi.com, right now is 376 but you get 15% off at check out, but i'm not sure if this is a good price and i dont see a flywheel in the pictures. here's the link.http://www.extremepsi.com/store/cust...cat=253&page=1
and now i'm gonna do my motor mounts, at work they have a hydraulic press and i think one of the engineers will help me. since it's gonna be a 6 bolt, i have to buy for a 6 bolt right?
and last, do i really need dsm link? i heard somewhere that dsm is used to take care of missfires when upgrading to a 6 bolt.
