Is this a problem?
me being a dumbass decided to rev the engine in neutral and then shift it to drive to see how the car would takeoff when i did this there was a loud screech from the tires and an audible clunk from the back
so know if i accerlate to hard from a stop there is a slight clunk sound and the rear right wheel feels like its slipping or having try to hard to get traction. i thought it might be the diffrential but i said let me ask you guys since you have more expierence.

Re: Is this a problem?
What are the specs of the car and is it an auto or manual?
Doing that with an auto (I assume its an auto because manuals are meant to launch like that) is very bad, you can kill the tranny like that. It sounds like you f-ed up the rear-end gears. You might have chipped something in the violent launch or twisted something. |

Re: Is this a problem?
Sorry to hijack your post but I have a similar question.
I have an Auto too and I have never done that and I just learnt that it is bad for the tranny. But is it ok to do it on manuals? Also, with an auto tranny, already being in D, does it hurt the tranny to floor it? (like in order to spin the tires? etc). Thanks. |

Re: Is this a problem?
Beating on a car is never good for it.
These cars are built to take more abuse than most though. Clunk....I would check the tranny mount. I need more info though. Do the tires spin now when you take off??? Or does it feel like the motor spins but the car doesn't go anywhere?? V6 or V8?

Floor it from a stop in an auto tranny in drive? Its not neccessarily bad, but generates a lot of heat in the tranny. I like to do it a lot though. |

Re: Is this a problem?
I *love* to do it too! I mean, what good is it to have a sports car and accelerate just as fast as the others?
Might as well get a camry.

Re: Is this a problem?
That's a good way to shorten the life span of moving parts though. Heat=Bad, unless you're running a turbo.

Re: Is this a problem?
its a V6 and it still takes off relatively fine except for the clunk and it kinda feels like the right rear wheel is rolling odd like was an oval instead of a circle thats the best way i can describe it at the moment.

Re: Is this a problem?
The tranny mount is probably the culprit for the first guys question...very common to blow easily on these cars. Try replacing it with a polyurathane one. Helped mine stop snapping on my '94 T/A.
