got my 3.73's
i just got my car home this morning from getting 3.73 rear gears and was wondering if they usually take a while to get seated because they howl a little at slower speeds not a lot but u can hear it. just wondering if it will go away or needs readjusting? its not very bad though

Re: got my 3.73's
Is everything new? The gears and bearings? They do need a couple of heat cycles to break them in, my new gears didn't make any noise when I had them installed.

Re: got my 3.73's
They may whine a little more than stock.
They are probably stouter gears overall...and sometimes they make more noise. Some people say if they are set-up properly they won't whine/howl at all. I tend to think anytime you change things for more turning parts there may be some noise. There is a break in period as well too. 500 miles easy driving from what I have heard. Although my Moser 9" with 4.11's needed heat cycled twice. Then according to the instructions I could pound on it. And I did.

Re: got my 3.73's
Some brands are prone to howling more than others. If they have a higher Nickel content its more commen.

Re: got my 3.73's
it also depends on the cut angle of the teeth, the straighter the cut the more noise they make. a more helical cut will be quieter.

Re: got my 3.73's
have you recalibrated the speedometer to account for the different final drive?

![]() You should have seen how fast mine climbed when I changed from 3.42's to 4.11's. Took me a week or so to have the computer changed...I regret not grabbing some video of the speedo climbing.

Re: got my 3.73's
I wish I could get some 3.73's on mine.. but I have yet to find a recalibrator that will work with my ECU.
