Re: heater core??? Need help???

I'm in the process of replacing mine. I got the dash off, which wasn't easy. I'm stuck at the point of getting the heater core out of the plastic housing. I must be missing a screw I can't see. If anyone knows what screw I be missing, let me know.

Here are some instructions I found for removing the dash (can't find the original post): You'll need to remove all the under dash panels and the knee bolster. There are two bolts at the bottom of the dash. (one on each side) they are 10mm. Below the steering column there are two "L" brackets, each bracket has 4 - 10mm bolts, you'll only need to remove the ones that are hard to get to. On top of the dash, there are 6 - 7mm screws. One under each speaker grill, and four under the defrost vent. The whole dash will roll forward after you remove all the screws, so that you can access behind it. when you dismantle the dash you will have to drop the steering column, it seems the dash just rolls back after you take out 3 screws on each side.

Once you have everything off the heater compartment is in two piece but dont worry about taking them apart, this will only cause more grief since the mechanisms controlling the air flow will be displaced from their seats. Loosen the one bolt going into the fire wall on the bottom of the heater compartment. There are two bolts coming in from the engine compartment on either side of this bolt. I just broke them. These two bolts coming in from the engine compartment are not in the air-condition compartment but below it, I think you may have to take your coolant system out to get at these two Titanium Nitride looking bolts. In the engine compartment there is a bolt that holds on the protective mat for the air conditioning condensing unit, it is the furtherist bolt towards the center of the engine, remove this bolt.

This is as far as I have gotten.

Thanks

Re: heater core??? Need help???

These are good instructions. Wish I had seen this last night.

"In the A/C evaporatior box where it says cut here for service so get in there and lossen that bolt and the heater box comes right out on top of the hater box there are two screws that are holding a cover over the heater core remove them and that is the core."

Do I need to cut the evaporator box to get to that last bolt?

Thanks

Re: heater core??? Need help???

Well I found out you don't need to cut the case to get the last screw. Just take all the screws and bolts that you can see off the evaporator case and the ones that hold it to the firewall. Then peel back the inside half of the case and take out the temp switch resister card (held on with 3 screws. Now you can see the last 10 mm screw. it is down in there, could only turn it a little at a time. That's it.
