Set up a a few races last night......

The latest addition to the fbody fleet here is an 02 SOM camaro SS 6 speed. We installed an airlid, smooth bellow, and slp loudmouth on it. It's been knocking off quite a bit of competition, and in doing so, puts a big ass bullseye on it. The mustang group has been playing around with their cars getting them ready for our group. They built a nice little foxbody and called us out. Doing a little research, we find out the car is a standard, definately has a cam, and a nice little vortech supercharger on it. We also find out the driver is not that great.

Anyway, they call us up and tell us to come on down and get a piece of the mustang. They said it was on street tires, so we need to be on street tires. This is how we showed up...........

So, first race is heads up, mustang on street tires, camaro on et slicks with no road prep. They both spin out of the hole, camaro hooks first, and its a tight race all the way through. Both racers say they won at the 1/4, so the mustang owner gets pissed and COCKY(which is what I love). He offers to get his slicks on, give the camaro 5 cars and the hit.

We take him up on his offer and he goes to get the slicks. In the meantime, I know without a doubt we aren't going to lose this race. I had a gallon of vht on me that would without a doubt hook this camaro.

They come back throw down some water and smoke the tires up. I lay down two nice size patches of vht and get my buddy to light up the mt's. When he come out of it the tires didn't make a sound. I had the road so damn sticky, you couldn't walk across it without losing a shoe.

After we get set out 5, the camaro launches out HARD. Dead hook, and the mustang launches WAY too low and bogs down some. The race is an absolute killing. Mustang guy tries to pull some bs about spinning, but everyone shot that down(even his crew).

As everyone is about to leave, the local stage 2 srt-4 pulls up wanting a race(we now had three people in the camaro). Never backing down from a challenge(and knowing the tires were still sticky) we accept. He's on nitto 555r. He does a half ass burnout and thinks he's ready. We give him the hit, and procede to walk this car down the road. It was funny as hell listening to his 3 in exhaust making all of that racket. He tried us from a roll with similar results and finally he gave up.

All in all, we had a great night of making asses out of modded cars with a basically stock SS. It's all about the 60 ft!!

Sounds like loads of fun. My midlife crisis car is either going to be the SS or the Foxbody... haha

The SOM SS of my buddies came from Florida. It was a rich woman's car. It had like 20,000 miles on it, and he got it for a dream.

My SS came from a local dealership. I was in the market for a beater, but wound up coming home with the ss.

Caught one on film last night(I'll have to convert it from a hi8 to my computer). We called the mustang out to our area(much better roads) to race the the pewter 01 Camaro SS(headers, lid, borla exhaust, 100 shot). We threw on the tires, layed down the track bite, and staged them up. They came out hard, but the SS didn't spray. The mustang jumped out ahead, the camaro started catching up on the big end, but it was too late.

Second race, we proved once again how weak the stock fbody rearend is. He did the burnout and staged. On the launch, the rear unlocked and smoked one tire up.

Third race, we figured out the nitrous problem, lined them up, he launched, and blew out the posi unit. Bad thing is the driver was worried about hooking, but I ASSURED him I would stick it..........I guess I stuck it alittle TOO HARD.

Oh, well.....I'll try to get the vid up for you guys in the next day or so. The mustang got three on us last night, but that's ok..........I got my tranny in the truck about 3:00 Sunday morning. Just getting a few miles on it before I go hunting.

Yeah, they brought out true mickey thompson slicks this time. He had zero problem launching the hell out of it. The car looked a good bit faster than the other night, so I'm thinking he spent alittle more time under the hood before the trip. I'm thinking a pulley swap, because it was definately making more power. That's ok, I bought a set of 200 jets for an occasion such as this.

Re: Set up a a few races last night......

nice kills! i raced a stock 05 srt-4 when i was stock and beat him by several car lengths (don't kno exactly how many, but it was a lot). since then i've added the mods in my sig,, not much but a noticeable difference. he's putting on a boost controller and a turbo timer and now wants to run them again. i don't think he has a chance.
