hmmm....
Well, the K&N sounds good, if it is better than the Edelbrock Filter, and the Headers is a plan, but I am trying to keep it emissions legal, so i don't know about the Catylitic converter being cut out, what would that do anyways?

if you want to stay emissions legal there is a set of headers from edelbrock that has all of the hook ups for O2 sensor as well ans air injection tubes they run about $350 as far a droping your cat I'd say no from what I've read you actually lose 3-4 hp and ft lbs doing so because of a loss in backpressure while you won't feel the loss because it is so small I'd still say no because now your car is emissions illegal too if you want my suggestion get a catco converter from Summit or Jegs for about $80 it's 100% legal and it flow a lot more than a stock converter. beyond that a flowmaster cat-back for about $250. well that's my 2 cents.

Moving the cats from the stock location in any car (after a certain date, i think it was '73) is illegal. The only headers that are truly legal are shorty headers (make sure they have a CARB number). The problem with shorties is they won't give you much gain, long tubes are well worth it if you are gonna go illegal on your exhaust anyways.
That being said, i have no cats . You don't need the backpressure, it only hinders performance in anything above very low end (and you don't race a 1500RPM's), only drawback is the illegal part. Depending on how much you want to spend, look into heads and a cam. With long tube headers and a high flowing exhaust you'll get some nice power. You could also get the engine bored and make it a stroker, but that will be expensive.
