93 K2500 Suburban Radio/Front Speakers (200,000 miles)

My front speakers and tape deck no longer work, replaced the amp but not the problem so decided to replace with another radio/CD/tape player and speakers. I've never taken a full front Dash out like this before, is there a manual that shows me the puzzle? Thanks

Is the head unit getting any power?? Do you have an Ohm meter or a circuit tester?? The Haynes manual has schematics in the back but its not an exploded view of the dash.

Re: 93 K2500 Suburban Radio/Front Speakers (200,000 miles)

Yes, the unit is getting power and even plays on the back speakers. I'd like to replace the entire radio/tape with a radio/cd system but I'm having some problem finding how to take the dash out and get to all the areas, like replacing the speakers. It's perhaps very simple but I'm clueless.

Thank you

Re: 93 K2500 Suburban Radio/Front Speakers (200,000 miles)

I believe there is a piece of plastic trim that is held on with four screws, remove them and you should be able to gain access to the screws that hold your A/C, & Radio in, you will have to remove the A/C first to get to the lower screw on the radio. I always remove the Negative cable from the battery before attempting any removal or installation, you don't want to fry your A/C controls.

As for the speakers not sure what size or how many but I think on those models you should be able to pry them off with a screwdriver, I would be extremely careful while doing this when plastic gets old it will break very easily...just take your time dont get in a big hurry.

I hope this has helped you.

Thanks much for the info.

I assumed that the speakers were being held in from the bottom.

You are correct on the old plastic. I just broke the piece around the radio and equalizer, so now the glove box needs duck tap (what a wonderful thing) to stay closed.
