what kind of tires does everyone prefer?

i need an inspection done on my bike and i won't pass with my current tires, so i'm wondering what everyone rides on? My oem tires were bridegstone battleaxe BT014's, they lasted forever(like 8,000 good miles), grip was pretty good, not a bad tire. I'm looking for something a little softer, i'm thinking about michelin pilots, I've also heard good things about dunlop qualifiers and pirelli's diablo's. i just wanna know what tires your guys have and what your experiences with them have been like.

Re: what kind of tires does everyone prefer?

i've had diablos back in 2000. very grippy and soft but only 3000miles (awesome in the wet).
changed to dunlop d208's (older variety. new ones out now)
thought they were shit by comparison but lasted twice as long.

my 954 came with michelin pilot sports. SHIT!!!!!! they wore out in a way to give really bad vibrations. the rubber moved into the tread groove and over time the leading edge of the groove got a lip. changed them after 3000miles to the pilot powers and think they are awesome. good in the wet in an understatement. still only getting 3000 out of a rear and 6000 out of the front.

Re: what kind of tires does everyone prefer?

I am still using Michelin Pilot Power, good for street and tracks. Close to 5000 miles for the both, there is still substantial tread left for the rear, and the front still looks new. Only difference, the tire used to have triangular profile and would fall in automaticly in the corner. Now it's rounder and requires more rider confirmation. They have good grip in the rain -rear stepped out in a turn and caught itself, and they warm up quickly in the morning.

However, when I first put on the tires, because of narrow profile and coating on the tire, the bike almost dropped itself while making a u turn, they're very sensitive in the beginning.
