Speeding Ticket

not only do i have a bad fever, not only do i have relationship problems, not only do i have trouble catching up in schoolwork after being home sick forever... but i just got a speeding ticket for doing 40 in a 30.
I'm feeling terrible right now so i'm not gonna bitch about it, but just say it was totally my fault, i know that road is always watched around this time, i know how stuck up cops are in that area, and i know i should have been slower. it just sucks. I can't afford this! i'm sooo tight on money its ridiculous. maintaining an old and failing car, paying for insurance (which is now about to rise a shit load cuz i'm under 21), and paying for school... yeah, i'm totally depressed about this shit.

Re: Speeding Ticket

Can you at least take the defensive driving class to avoid the insurance hike and reduce the fine? You'll still end up paying as much money, maybe a lil more (at least thats how its set up in Tallahassee, FL) but you avoid the insurance hit.

i already did, about 4 months ago, and i had a clean record till now... i don't know if i can take it again so soon, like legally, but if so, i'll deal with 6 hours of boredom happily.

Re: Speeding Ticket

Hmmm. I think you have to wait 12 months before you can use it again. Maybe even 6.

If its 6 maybe you could ask for an extension on the ticket then once you're eligible take the class take it and hope they don't realize the shadiness

Re: Speeding Ticket

that sucks, just talk to the cop a tcourtand tell him you can't afford an insurance hike, ask him if there's any way he can plea it to a non-moving violation like a seatbelt or broken speedometer.

sorry about your bad luck, shit'll get better. if it makes you feel any better i just got a ticket for 64 in a 45, misery loves company, right?

Re: Speeding Ticket

hold on, defensive driving is the 5hr class, the point reduction class is the 6hr class... i just took the 6hr recently, havn't taken the 5hr since i got my permit long ago... so does the 5hr course do anything for you? i'm not aware of any benefits, i only thought it was a NYS requirement to get a license.

Do cops usually talk to defendants before court? The only time a cop gave me the time of day was when he was a witness to some kid smashing the front end of my car. Every other time, they sit way off to the side in the area that non-lawyers/ law enforcement officers aren't allowed to enter.

Sorry. I guess I meant the point reduction class. But check just in case. In florida, the class was 4 hours and I took it online both times (2 years apart). But in Illinois, there are no points as far as I know. I only got tickets in IL before I turned 18 so maybe it was because I was a minor, but I got a total of 9 tickets. There were 3 moving violations spread between 3 groups of 3 tickets each incident. But every time I would get tickets, go to court 3 weeks later and they'd tell me I was under "supervision" for 3 months meaning that as long as I didn't get another ticket in that time the previous ones would disappear from my record. And my fine was only $75 total each time.

Those were the days

Re: Speeding Ticket

well, its actually a summons, not a ticket, so i have to show up to court, and they'll give me a fine there. So, i'm planning on showing up (rather than mailing in the summons with my plea decision) and pleading guilty as charged, with an explanation, hopefully I can have the judge talk it down?

Re: Speeding Ticket

first offense, may theyll let you off. my judge did and mine was a wreckless driving charge. i was on, 6 month probation i think which meant if i got a ticket within that time, i was royal screwed.

as for the driving class, take it. you can take it as many times as you want and it looks good. i know, after all my incidents, ive taken it a lot for future ordeals. now you wont get points off each time, but it looks good.

they do here, provided you plead not guilty before hand. you send the ticket in "not guilty" and when you show up for your court date they call you into some little side hallway and you discuss a plea bargain before you appear before the judge. anytime i've gotten pulled over it was for 15+ over the limit and it always gets plead down to "failure to observe traffic device".

It was $244 exactly. He pulled me over and said he should also give me reckless endagerment (which is a felony) which would not have been good at all. I talked to the prosecuting attorney and got like one point dropped off of the ticket, paid my fine and moved on with life....well, until I got excessive torque, spilling a load (lol), and impeding traffic.

Re: Speeding Ticket

Go to court, they will probably plea it down if it is your first offense.
