Ashtray wont close?

Anyone know a simple fix for a Park Ave ashtray that wont close?

Simplest fix? leave it open.

Um...what year? Is this the '57 in your name? Eitherway, just look and see what whould be causing it to stay open--a bent runner or something behind it in the dash has come loose, perhaps?

It's a 98 Park Ave. It pushes up and clicks into place but it doesn't click or stay shut. It was fixed originally under warranty but broke again.

I think it's a common problem to GM of the era. My wife's friend who is a heavy chain smoker broke hers constantly whe dumping the tray out in 98 Lumina.

On a side note, I got tired of repairing or replacing, so I layed it on the exhaust tunnel, problem solved
