Lightbulb Intake install question

hey guys-

just found this site....looks like a great community with lots of knowledge.

so I got a question for all you experts out there. I have a 95 civic ex. just started mods on it...more asthetic than under the hood. I recently had a generic short ram intake installed....and now my car sounds horrible. now, I know when you rip out the cold air box there's open air coming in and out of those holes, but is it really supposed to sound like mass wind is coming thru that part of the engine? I have friends who have civics with short intakes and their cars do *not* sound like that....is there anything that can be done? I asked the guy that installed it for me, and he said it was because of the cold air box. personally, I think he's b.s.ing me, mainly because I'm a chick, but hell...

if anyone has any words of wisdom, please share. I'd really appreciate it.

peace,
blujae

most intakes do get kinda loud when u go with an aftermarket one. pop the hood and make sure both of the hose clamps are tightened all the way.

What kind of intake/filter are you using? Typically the piping structures of the different intakes on the market are going to be very similar. Most of the difference is going to come in the filter you are using. If you are using a cheap filter...sometimes you are going to get a nasty sound. Also..are you sure the install was done correctly? If you're not very familar with the setup...can you post some pictures? It's impossible for you to describe the sound that you're hearing over the internet unless you recorded it. So maybe some pics would help us help you.

What holes are those? And what part of the engine are you saying that it sounds like mass air is coming through?

Oh yeah, and welcome to AF

thanks for the replies, everyone.

ok, so to answer kicker's question....it sounds like mass air is flowing thru the holes the cold air thingiemabob was covering....it's either there or right where the intake filter is. (the filter points down into where the cold air thing used to be) when I turn my A/C on adjust the temp in my car, it gets louder/softer, depending on what I do. it almost sounds like a hair dryer. a friend told me the installer gave me a shitty filter and it looks like it might even be the wrong size (??? how do people do this for a living and not know what the correct size is for car parts??). as the days go by I get more and more pissed b/c I feel I've been taken for a fool...either that or someone just did a rush job and I need to take it back to get it adjusted/fixed.

also, when I rev it up....sometimes you can't even hear the change in sound the intake was supposed to take care of....like it doesn't kick in....if that makes any sense....sometimes it sounds like a standard civic.

I will try and borrow my friend's mavica so I can shoot some pics to post, jimmy. again, thanx for replying so quickly.

peace,
blujae

just cover those holes with plastic, or fiberglass or whatever is handy. If the noise still occurs, you know it wasnt that
