Engine Problems

I bought a 1993 2.4L engine to replace my 1994 2.4L engine. The engine has a skip in it and I cannot figure out what it is. I have replaced the plugs, wires, rotary button, Distributor cap, and adjusted the distributor timing to where it runs the smoothest, but nothing has helped it. I can unhook the sensor on the air flow breather and it will smooth up while it is sitting idling, but as soon as I drive it, it starts skipping. I have had this thing in two different garages trying to get it fixed and neither one could figure it out. any help would be greatly appreciated.
