Gotian's Recall
Well as most of you know there have been recalls for the RX-8 from 2003-2006. The recall was for 4 things:
1) Having trouble starting the car - Solution = bigger alternator and higher powered battery 2) Rough Idle - caused by running too rich and also not enough oil injected into the engine - Solution = A new flash for the ECU to lean out the fuel and help for combustion and to add more oil onto the rotars 3)Cat check - can be damaged because of the two problems above - Solution = Replace cat with a higher temp resistant cat available for the 2007 models 4) Vaccum test on engine - most common on the Auto's - Solution - replace engine. Apparently they were calling mine the one that escaped. My 8 was made in april, which they stopped making the 06 in May (they were only made for 5 months) and the VIN fell into the numbers that needed the recall. They took mine in cause I called them and told them when I turned it on some mornings it would take a while to start and that I had some rough Idle. So I got the car back today and the ones they needed to do were 1-3. The car felt so much better! It was smoother in traffic, and it felt like it accelerated a bit better (I guess cause combustion's better now) and the MPG improved too, I drove over 80+ miles from when I got it and it had 1/4 tank left and I still have plenty more! Even though these cars have had numerous recalls in the past, I give mazda credit for taking swift care of the problems and giving their clients no hassel and great service, which makes me even happier that I bought from them. So mad props Mazda, mad Props!

Re: Gotian's Recall
I do like the fact that manufacturers recall cars for whatever problems that they know are common. I think GM has dropped the ball there though, as alot of LS1's have piston slap, and it is a very common problem with the engine due to overboring the cylinder head walls (My previous camaro had piston slap).
My former Evo (Mitsubishi) and Cobra (Ford) both had recalls. The Evo was for something as stupid as a metal plate that misquoted the vehicles weight.

That would be very stupid and very rejected by mazdas rx junkies, it would kill the whole concept of the car which is handling. Anyways I forgot one thing they also did because of the rough idle, they changed the spark plugs to help with it.

Re: Gotian's Recall
You forget that the guys who swap LS1's into the FC Rx-7's still maintain the weight balance, and gain huge amounts of reliability. I still love the 13B-T though... such a great sound.

Re: Gotian's Recall
What about the recall to make it a little less ugly?

those guys who swap for LS1's are just muscle car people who wished their cars were faster and looked better. The true RX fans and fanatics mod what they got or swap for another rotary engine.

Re: Gotian's Recall
I don’t see how swapping engines makes them any less of a RX fan. I mean I like the 13b-T also but if someone wants to swap in a LS1 into theirs then why not? They are still keeping the best parts of the car... its looks and handling. SCC did a really nice comparison and the LS1 does NOT compromise the handling of the RX7. In fact I think the two engines weigh almost the same. So what’s so wrong with "modding" a car to make it faster? Maybe its not what you would do but whatever. Saying other people aren’t real enthusiast just because they don’t do things your way is ignorant. Hell if the engine goes in my 951 you best believe im going LS1/2 but I guess I am not a real Porsche enthusiast either
![]() Again though I’m not saying the LS1 is better then the Rotary. If I did a RX7 I would stay with a rotary also. But I am just pointing out that there are different ways to the same end of making a fast RX7. And whos way is better or right is just a matter of opinion.

Re: Gotian's Recall
hm V8 RX-8, not a bad idea.
but yeah V8 FC's tend to be pretty serious cars, I saw one a Formula D last month that was doing really well until it spun. plus a 20B will cost more to install than a V8 (for FC's). I'm still swapping the 13b since I like it and I don't need to make outrageous power. Quote:
There are different fans of the RX-7: fans of the chassis and fans of the engine. I guess people who swap V8's are the former. Quote:
And I don't know what you're talking about "gaining reliablilty" since FC's don't have the same problems that FD's do. Many owners have gotten to and beyond 200k on a turbo motor.
