1996 Radio

I recently had an electrical problem with my 1996 Taurus. It wasn't charging, etc. I found out that the 75 amp fuse on the power distribution box was fried. I replaced the fuse and the alternator started charging again. Another problem that happened was the fuse in the power distribution box for the radio was blown. I replacede it and it blew again immediately. I replaced it again and nothing happened. The radio does not work though. I thought that maybe I fried the radio. I tried 2 other junkyard radios and neither worked so I am suspecting another problem. ANy ideas??

Re: 1996 Radio

Does the radio appear to turn on, you just don't hear any sound, or nothing shows up on the display? Which fuse number was blown in the distribution box? There are at least 6 fuses that provide various power to the radio system, including the Rear Control Unit (RCU) in the trunk.

Nothing shows up. The clock, the radio, nothing. The heat & cooling controls work fine. The fuse was a small 15 amp fuse. Not sure of the number. I will look at the number when I get home.

Re: 1996 Radio

There may be a fuse on the back of the factory radio or just inside the factory deck, I'm not sure.

Do you have a multimeter or test light that you could use to check for power to the head unit controls on the back of the Integrate Control Panel (ICP)? If so, I may be able to walk you through some pins to check on the back of the head unit to narrow the search down a bit better.
