Re: 86 wagon engine light need reset?

There is a certain procedure on reading the codes.
On mine 92 there are few connectors in the engine bay by the fuel filter.
You suppose to use two green ones.
First you have to take the knee bolster off. It is a small pannel right under your steering weel. You will see the computer with a tiny light bulb. They call it O2 light.
Next connect two green connectors together. ENGINE NOT RUNNING and is off.
Now go to your driver seat and turn the key to the on position. ENGINE NOT RUNNING!
The O2 light will start flushing codes. It flushes it in pairs: long and short flushes. For example two long and three short will mean code 23.

Write down the codes and come back here. I will look up in the chart for them.

Goood luck!

P.S. All this procedures are in the Haynes manual.

And one more note: for older Subarus the test connectors might be inside the cabin under the steering weel.

Sam

Not sure about the 86 but on my 88 gl 10 the two green test plugs are under the dash right below the steering wheel. just removed the panel where the fuse block cover is and bam there the plugs are.

P.S the haynes manual while not perfect is a great resource and a must (atleast for me) . Iam much more adept at working on older american cars than foreign ones. however I just did the timing belts on my gl 10 and thanks to advice on this site and the haynes manual the job went smoothly.
