on the way to work my oil light starts to flicker on and off after about 10 miles then when i slow down to turn the light goes off and stays off till the next morning. changed oil filter thought maybe that was plugged, changed oil sending unit no progress. oil pressure gauge doesnt move when light is flickering.

Re: oil light flickers on morning commute
There are actually two oil pressure sending units on your Trooper. One is for the idiot light, the other is for the guage. You might check to see that you got the right one for the light. You can test the light by simply grounding the connector to the wiring harness while ignition is on. Light should come on steady. Good luck

Re: oil light flickers on morning commute
Just added a mechanical oil pressure guage. Started engine, oil pressure started out at 70 psi and then dropped slowly down to 18 psi in about 5 min. What is going on? This is driving me nuts!!!! Actually this vehicle isn't driving me anywhere now. Its parked until I can fix it.

Quote:
pressure will be much higher when the oil is cold. and drop as you say. edit add:quote: """You can test the light by simply grounding the connector to the wiring harness while ignition is on. Re: oil light flickers on morning commute
If your oil is flowing good - no blockages in the oil passages and not too thick of an oil - 18psi at idle is about perfect.
I personally wouldn't want to see it below 10psi at idle on a warm engine, but 15-20 psi on a warm engine at idle is fine.

Re: oil light flickers on morning commute
remove the oil pan not the entire thing just the smaller part the screen for th oil pump pick up has been sucked up against the tube restricting oil flow or there is trash in the bottom of the pan that settels whit engine off and when running it will get pulled to the tube or you may have both siutations going on
