My problem

I've been having this problem for a while and it got worse. Everytime i start my car it makes a click noise i turn the key again and it starts. at first i though i was not holding the clutch all the way in but now it takes me about 3-4 clicks before it starts. What could be the problem and how much would it cost? I dont know too much about cars. Also another problem i have is a noise that comes from the rear when i brake. it sounds like the muffeler is scratching the floor when i hit the brake (usually the noise happens 3 sec before the car goes in to stop. i thought it was the brake pads but they are goodand the noise comes from the back of the car.

Thanks everyone

Re: My problem

The starter motor could be binding due to worn bushings. Could be a faulty connection to the starter or battery.

the noise from the rear-
something worn or loose in the suspension
debri between the brake pads and the rotors
do the pads have wear sensors?
did you check both the inboard and outboard pads?

Re: My problem

A clicking starter is a common problem with Toyota starters. Most often, the problem is sticking starter solenoid contacts. See the following links for descriptions on how to replace them. This is a really cheap and easy fix and should be the first thing you try after you check all the cable connections and the battery quality.
