Question Clutch Problem

I have a 2000 Toyota Celica. When I start it up and press the clutch in and try to go into first it wont let me. I thought maybe my clutch didnt have any pressure so i blead my line and try it again same thing. If I start it up in first it will go, but when i go to shift it wont pop out of first and go into second.
Remind you that it has a brand new tranny and a TRD clutch with a lightin flywheel in it. I had no problems when all of this was installed. I drove my car for a while until now.

If anyone has any sugestions let me know thanks
Bryan

Re: Clutch Problem

Was it a new transmission or a used transmission you had installed in August?

Re: Clutch Problem

The problem is not caused by (worn) synchros. If your talking about being at a stop and having difficulty trying to shift into first, the clutch is either dragging and you would hear and feel a grind, or the gear couplers (which are part of the synchros) are not aligned and are not turning so that they will align and couple. Coupler teeth become rounded over time and actually make shifting a little easier. When you lift your foot a bit from the floor does your trans slide into first gear, or is your clutch not dissengaging completely? Slipping out of gear is a transmission problem caused by wear on the coupling splines of first gear. How much freeplay is there at the master/cyl?

Lightbulb Re: Clutch Problem

Every since I had the car. i never had free play. As soon as the pedal leaves the floor it grabes. alot of ppl can't drive my car without stalling. I though it was the TRD clutch installed, but maybe my master clynder isnt giving me enough pressure. It couldnt be my syncros. Y would all 7 of my syncros go out at once. I can't get into any of my gears not just first and second. I get the clutch master clyinder on monday or so. so ill let you guys know if thats the problem. If not. Then Im geussing its the pressure plate.

Re: Clutch Problem

The free play I am writing about is adjusted at the link connecting the master cylinder to the pedal. Adjust it close to zero but it must have freeplay. You would probably only notice this free play when pushing on the clutch pedal with your fingers. This adjustment is very important when replacing master cylinders because the dimensions may vary between the new and the old m/cyl.

Re: Clutch Problem

my girlfriends car has the same issue. if she starts it; it will sometimes not go into first or reverse [although she has more trouble shifting 1-2] i have found if it will not go into reverse or 1st to let the clutch back out then press it in again and it goes in fine. this problem however may be totally unrelated to yours, as i dont know if you've tried that [i can only assume you have] im about to replace the shifter with a trd one, and the clutch with an exedy/fidanza combo. the shift linkage is also going to be checked. i also think when someone asked about your oil they were referring to trans fluid i assume? because your engine weight oil won't affect your transmission not shifting properly. i put in mobil 1 synthetic trans fluid @ 50k and it shifted better than ever for awhile. it now has 72k on it and i believe it is the clutch starting to go because it will slip here and there and smells of clutch after a long drive.
