well the starter makes a clicking noise like it is trying to turn the engine over, and i am getting full power so i know it is not the battery... it acts as if the engine is stuck and the starter cant crank it over or something...
i reset it because i just changed the intake on it... nothing that would involve anything major... i have reset it b4 and it has done fine... A> |

It sounds like a bad electrical connection or a fried starter!!! Thats the only thing I can think of by not being able to touch it and hear it...

i was being dumb or something....
the battery was drained just enough so that it wouldnt turn over.... i flipped on the stereo just for some tunes and when the bass hit the cars electrical cut out, and disconnecting the amp proved the cars electrical to turn back on.... so whats the lesson here... well pulling a fuse wont kill the starter, but it may for some reason drain the battery if the car is in the "on" position... __ on another note i must say that it did make a difference resetting the ECU, my car even sounds richer... i went out and drove it hard for a few, and at first it felt like i had wasted 4 grand on modifications because it was driving like a fucking geo metro, after a few mins driving it started to catch up with it self, it idels better, has a deeper exhaust sound, has smoother incline around 5000 rpms (i was having a bit of a dip from there to 6500). not huge differences, but definatly noticable for anyone who "listens" to thier car. i would sugest this little operation to anyone who has made even the smallest modifications to thier engine. thanks for your help guys A> out |

You are supposed to unhook the negative side of the batt for a couple of minutes.... I always un hook both sides of the batt..... The longer you can leave it unhooked the better chance of it TOTALLY resetting...

ECU RESET
actually just unpluging something does not always reset it
ie new VCRs, they manage to keep thier time on them... (well mine does) it is a computer, so it has a back up battery, just like all computers. so to reset it, you need to start your car, and open the hood and fuse box under the hood and pull the ECU fuse and the radio/back-up fuse as well. the car will cut off when you do this, give it about 10 seconds, then take the keys out of the ignition and put the fuses back in, start the car, and blam, it is reset, usually the car hesitates a little when you try to start it up...
