Our 1997 Plymouth GV recently died on us after I replaced the left front head light assembly. After installing the new unit I checked the normal operation of the light which was ok. After re-installing the power distribution box and the battery it wouldn't start.
Present symptoms are; ratling noise after the poles are reconnected to the battery, non of the interior lights light up opening the doors, ticking and clicking sounds from the fuze and relay boxes in the car as well as the motor compartment and all kind of different odd symptoms. What might be a connected is the "nice guy" who helped my wife in getting the steer wheel lock unlocked when she paked the car with the wheel to one side. She told me he "forced" the wheel out of its locking position.I also like to have the actual wiring diagrams of the car. I have the Haynes repair book but the schematics aren't very helpfull Harco |

Re: Plymouth 1997 GV all kind of ratling sounds
Battery cables swapped? Pushed/bent pin/loose connection on PCM or PDC. Weak battery?
Schematics here aren't any better but you might find something useful: http://www.autozone.com/servlet/UiBr...ginRepairGuide |

None of the above, battery is just half a year old and in good order. Presently car doesn't start. I'm thinking it's a lose ground connection, why wouldn't the interior lights not work?

Although your battery may be six months old, it may have discharged somehow since your problems began. I suggest you recharge it to be sure it is fully charged. When the battery discharged in my van from excessive accessory use, the clicking sounds began as well. You may also have dirty connections, as well.

Re: Plymouth 1997 GV all kind of ratling sounds
Yup, a loose ground is another candidate. Your interior lights, along with most electronics in the car are controlled by the Body Control Module (BCM). If the switch and fuse are good, the BCM is a possiblity. With everything going on in your van you may have scrambled it. Try resetting it by removing the IOD fuse in the PDC for 3 minutes then reinsert it. Disconnecting the battery does the same but, not sure when that happened in your sequence of events or how long.
The BCM, however, won't effect starting. Recommend you put the lights issue aside for now and get it started. Might want to pull the IOD fuse while you're chasing the starting problem to protect it. You won't have any instruments but, it will start without it. Solid state electronics are vulnerable to wild voltage fluctuations. As KManiac suggested, charge the battery. Be a shame to spend hours/days on this and have it turn out to be that ugly black box. |

wayman wong-
Since your problem doesn't have anything to do with thread, "ratling sounds", you may want to start your own thread. |
