Knock Knock...

...Who's there? WAIT A SECOND! THIS ISNT A KNOCK KNOCK JOKE! ITS THE NOISE MY ENGINE IS MAKING!!

My poor G.. the other night I was driving home after dropping a friend off at home, and now its making a terrible loud knocking noise. It also lost a lot of the power behind it. She told me as I drove away it got louder and louder too. The knocking sounds like its definitely coming from inside the engine. And its loud and constant.

Anyone know what could be causing this? So far I've been told it could be my lifters, my spark plugs, my fuel injectors, a valve, a gasket or a piston, and finally a crankshaft.

I'm hoping that it will be something thats cheap and easy for me to fix, due to my financial situation. But I'm also hoping that my entire motor is gone and I'll have to get a new one. Then maybe I can try and talk my parents into letting me get a SR20DET. Wouldnt that be sweet?

Well, I'd really like any input from everyone that has an idea on what could be wrong here.. I'm open to a lot of options.

Now that I think of it.. I can check my spark plugs myself..

I was auctually going to do it the other day.. but the sparkplug socket that my dad has is for the larger sized spark plugs. Does anyone know what size sparkplug socket I will need for my G? Hopefully someone knows and I can borrow one off of a friend.

Thanks.

Well the mechanic just called. He came over and looked at the car.

I need a new motor.

Please donate your SR20DET to me. E-Mail [email protected] for shipping details.

Whaa??? a new motor...uhhh thats a little extreme. What detail did he give you on to why the engine was knocking? The reason why you lost the power in the first place is the knock sensor detected the knocking and retarded the timing...

Nope.

Spun a bearing.

According to the mechanic the rod taht connects to the crankshaft is busted. And the Knocking is the rod smacking against whatever.

Either way this sucks shit. =[

It is unlikely that your rod busted, they are very very strong. Perhaps your bearing is going out is what he meant. Did you over rev your motor?

If the rod was busted the engine would not even go....it would have destroyed it self inside the engine.

As P10DET said......its more then likely a spun bearing.

Yep. The rods rarely break and when they do it's catastrophic. They usually ventilate the block. This is pretty much true when the bearing caps on the rods separate as well.

Spun bearings are not uncommon on the SR20.

Well its a completely stock SR20 with 140k miles on it. And as far as I know, the guy I bought it from didnt take that great of care of it.

If it is a spun bearing, how much would it be to get it repaired?

You might want to try replacing the bearings yourself if, indeed it is that, bearings aren't all that expensive. But first, you must find out if, indeed that is the problem.

I'm gonna wait until my dad gets back in town before I think about doing anything.

Last night my mom told me that since I've had 3 older cars shit on me that they are just gonna buy me a brand new car. So I'm like "Uh, ok".

Hehe, 2002 G20 Sport here we come!
