Who on AF reads literature?

Was curious to see how many readers we have on here. I remember a poll a while back, but thought i'd make another.

Re: Who on AF reads literature?

i don't really read much anymore. I haven't read literature in a while. Most recently I've read non-fiction.

Nickel and Dimed by Barbara Ehnrich (-sp)
Bait and Switched by Barbara Ehnrich
The Covenant With Black America complied by Tavis Smiley (yes his name is hillarious, but he's a very serious guy )
The Power of Full Engagement by Jim Loehr

But for the past month or two I only visit (live on) AF and listen to ESPN Radio and talk radio. I believe I'm the only 23 year old black man in America that listens to a 53 year old white guy on the radio every day

If I'm not doing those things, I'm doing homework... much like I should be doing now. Adios til tonight AF

Re: Who on AF reads literature?

i can't say i'm either one of those...if i get ahold of a book, i read it non stop till i finish, if i don't find another i like..i may go awhile before i read another novel...example: i read Black House then read The Talisman the moment i finished Black House (read them in reverse...Black House was a continuation of The Talisman)...sometimes i read the same book over and over...depending on how good it was...but i haven't read a novel in a while...read short stories everyday online and magazines on the bus ride home.

Re: Who on AF reads literature?

I watch one show on TV one day a week. That's the only time I watch TV.

I read at least 20 minutes every day. I'm mad at myself for sitting on my computer so much lately instead of reading, but I can't really help it. But when I do read, I read a lot. Like, I finish a book every other day.

Re: Who on AF reads literature?

I've based my life around reading. I'm pretty selective about what I actually remember though... like for instance, posts by Internet postwhores... LOL

Novels are great. Many people get turned off from reading them because most think that a novel of literature is some long boring tome that spans the life of the hero etc. Most books written are page turners that start in the middle and develop exposition through flashbacks etc. like a movie. I like to alternate between the two. Lately, I've been trying to read all the Stephen King books I've acquired and frankly I'm quite tired of reading about Maine... haha... I have to admit though that the violent descriptions are quite disturbing. Disturbing descriptions are always intriguing... like in the novels "American Psycho" or "Glamorama" by Bret Easton Ellis

Re: Who on AF reads literature?

I read quite a bit. I have nearly 400 books of various lengths and authors. I usually stick to westerns but I have started some science fiction books as of late.

Re: Who on AF reads literature?

I used to read alot, then i went to a boarding school and didn't have the time/didn't have enough peace and quiet to actually sit down and read. now i'm just too busy with school, studying, rowing, rugby, socialising, wasting time on AF. i only ever watch tv on weekends. I wish i could read more but i just can't fit it in. i might be able to once im done school since this summer i'm going to be rowing and working (hopefully for a friend of mine's dad's construction company doing 10hrs/day, 5-6days/week) where rowing takes 2-3 hours out of my day (hopefully more if i can fit it in) plus some weekends for regattas (competitions).

once i'm an engineer doing an easy job with lots of time to waste (hahaha i wish) i'll have time to read, i'll at least read every night before bed like i used to before high school.

although when i do read, i read like a madman, i'll read non-stop until the book's finished, the complete opposite of my dad. if he has 4 pages until the end of the book, he'll go to sleep at the same time and leave those 4 pages until the next day.

future reads: my english teacher really got me into literature so i'm going to try and read the prince, sophie's choice, the brothers karamozov, war and peace (started reading it but didn't have time so i gave up on it), rise and fall of the third reich, and more.
