Re: Who has the most miles on there car?

I have a 2003 with 80K. Where I work we have company cars with close to 300K , they are not Impalas. I think any car it is possible, If you take care of the car, watch fluid levels...etc.

Maintenance is key. If you don't beat the car up, and take proper care of it, it will last a long time. The engine in my car has 264,000 miles on it since it was rebuilt in 1993 - I've put every one of those miles on it myself. I religiously change the oil every 3-4000 miles and change the oil filter with every oil change. I perform weekly PM on the car, looking at things like hoses (although they're silicone rubber and lifetime rated, anything can happen), check radiator for signs of leakage (a white to off-white to bluish white powdery residue on the core is a sign of leakage), check the ATF, check the power steering fluid, brake fluid, condition of the wiring harness, etc - you get the point. I perform a 6-month checkup of the car including lubricating all chassis points - ball joints, tie rods, idler arm etc.

To me, a car isn't worth keeping unless I can keep it in great condition for 10 years, and I hope to be driving the car I am now for the next 6-10 years at least. Call me strange - it's okay, you wouldn't be the first. The last car I had for 11 years and the engine I am using now came from it.

Re: Who has the most miles on there car?

My last car lasted for 14 years ( Chevrolet). It still ran like the day I got it when I traded her in for a new car. I too check under the hood at each fill up. I think my neighbors think I am nuts for changing my oil and working on my car. I rotate the tires every 6k miles too. I like working on my car, some ppl like crossword puzzles, some paint, some play golf, I work on my car. I do wish they would go back to the "fill" type battery. Batterys last me about 5 - 7 years. The fill type, the last one, it was a YUASA battery in a Toyota Corona. That battery lasted 12.5 years. My Mom had the car for 6 years, I had it for 7. Took perfect care of it. Had to torque the head gasket regularly as called for in the service manual. Sold the Corona with 95k miles to a neighbor who gave it to his son. His son tried to kill the car numerous times. Never did maint. on the car and after another 80k miles the head gasket let lose... and it ruined the motor, they kept driving till it seized.

Re: Who has the most miles on there car?

I work at a parking lot in the city of Pittsburgh, PA and have seen many Impalas with 150K+ miles on them, most of them 3.8's though. I have seen some higher mileage 3.4's but not as many. I've seen other GM cars with the 3800 Series II with over 250K miles too.

Re: Who has the most miles on there car?

I've been buying Vic's for over 12 years and I see a bunch when part hunting over 400k on the odometer. I'm hoping my 01 3.8 Impala will do something similar. I have 111k on it now. Runs nice.

Re: Who has the most miles on there car?

My 03 impala LS has 50k on it. I put 20 on it in the last 12 months. It has been a great car but today at the McD's drive thru I hear a creek from the front end when braking. I am gonna lift it tomorrow and check it out. I wonder if the bracket that holds the caliper could be a wee bit loose from the spindle. I remember how tight they were from the factory and I probably didn't tighten them as good when I changed the rotors this past spring. but that is a premature guess considering I haven't been under it yet.

Reguardless, it is a quiet, quick, smooth and very well refined car.

Re: Who has the most miles on there car?

Just do the reg maintenance and replace parts as they ware out and the car will last a life time. I know a woman who purchased a '58 chevy PU new and still has it to this day. Oddity, because most people get tired of their cars and want to get a new one. Other people say that the car is not worth teh cost to repair but compare that to paying 25 grand for a new car.

Re: Who has the most miles on there car?

150,000 on my 2000LS and I've put every mile on it. It still runs exactly like the day I bought it.
