1999 ply. neon SOHC cam position sensor
I can't find the right Cam sensor that fits for my neon. The one I took off my engine fits over the the camshaft, about 1/8 of an inch. All the replacements fit flush to the engine. Anyone know anything about this ? Thanks

Re: 1999 ply. neon SOHC cam position sensor
The car starts hard, and sometimes it don't start at all. When it does start it runs great. but leaking oil from from cam sensor gasket, and I am getting the code 54. I have been to autozone,NAPA, and even a Chrysler dealer and haven't found the right one yet. Or even andbody who seen any sensor like the one I need. It looks like the one they have, but mine fits over the camshaft ,about an 1/8 of an inch, and the ones that fit flush on the engine won't fit. Also, ther are 2 different kinds, one with 4 bolts ,and one that goes on with 2 bolts. Mine is the four bolt type.

Re: 1999 ply. neon SOHC cam position sensor
Tomorrow I am going to where I bought the car new back in 1999. Its a bit of a distance but its the only alternative I have left. If they don't have it, I sure hope they can get one. I'll let you know what happens, thanks

Re: 1999 ply. neon SOHC cam position sensor
Ran into the same problem. The new cam position sensor rides on top of the end of the cam and will not seal. After checking the a couple of part stores in town I ended up at AutoZone. The sensor again looked the same, but the box had a note in it explaining that the new design requires that you tap the cam in to be flush with the engine. This worked for me, the new sensor fits and seals and solved the 54 error I had. My learning.. RTFM
