97' Taurus Pcode 0411 (How to find root cause)?

1997 Ford Taurus GL Sedan
3.0L V6 12-Valve DOHC Vulcan Engine
Automatic Trans
138,000 Miles

Vehicle needs to be smog checked ASAP. CES light had been lit on dash for over a year (could not trace root cause of issue until recently. Vehicle failed smog check and indicated OBDII error 0340 (Camshaft Position Sensor Malfunction).

Replaced camshaft position sensor & reset OBDII error codes. Drove the vehicle for a while and CES light came back on. Getting new error code now:

Pcode 0411
Secondary Air Injection System Incorrect Flow Detected

Need to figure out how to track down source of P0411 error

I still have your e-mail address. I'll send you the diagnostic procedure from the service manual. Hopefully I can get to that tonight (gotta rake leaves first).

Many Thanks Rod!

I got rid of one error and found another! The thing that made it the worst was that the CES light didn't come back on until I was actually sitting at the inspection facility having the car weighed just before getting tested!
That was really aggravating

I also discovered some information that I didn't know about Smog Tests and diagnostic reset time periods (AKA Drive Cycles)...

I thought that I could just reset the error and run back to the Smog Test Center & have them quickly test before the error came back (I guess that's not the case?!).

When I returned, the tester asked if I had driven the car over 50 miles...I answered Yes (because I actually believed that I had). I thought that he was just trying to make sure that the error had been given enough time to show back up (that's not nice!).

I assumed that he was just being thorough...not knowing that his system wouldn't be able to pick up any accurate reading until the duration of the Drive Cycle had been reached...it wasn't just a silly rule, it was a requirement (or so it would seem).

There's another post in this forum (VW area) by a guy named Guns90 who talks about a similar situation where the diagnostic equipment would not read the codes correctly until the Drive Cycle had been reached... http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbul...d.php?t=447931

Anyway...Now I'm late on getting the Bull smogged, so I'll have to deal with submitting updated paperwork to the DMV (argggggg.....lines).

Oh well...what can you do?

Thanks again in advance for helping with this!
