98 Suburban wiper motor
I have a '98 Suburban, 1500 4X4 powered with a 5.7 L. My wipers stopped yesterday on the way home from work and made a humming sound, when I stopped in my drive way I moved the wipers manually from outside and they worked again. Should I expect to replace the wiper motor soon? If so, is it a large job?
Thanks for any help Bazzzooka |

Re: 98 Suburban wiper motor
Wiper motors are easy to change, some of them you can change with out pulling the wiper cowling, some you have to pull the wiper cowling. Disconect the electrical connector, there are 3 or 4 bolts that hold the motor to the firewall, then there is a nut that holds the wiper linkage to the motor drive. Also a good idea to disconect the neg. battery cable when working on electrical components.

Re: 98 Suburban wiper motor
I had the same problem with my suburban, try tapping the wiper housing under the hood and see if it comes on, if it does then all you need is a pulse module its a quick fix for around$25.00 if you do it yourself. Before you go buy one though it may be a good ideal to call your local GM dealer and have them check if your vehicle is included in the recall...they do have a recall jsut for this problem but mine was made in Canada so it wasnt included....hope this helps

Re: 98 Suburban wiper motor
You can fix the wiper circuit board yourself if you want to save some money. I know the fix has been posted on the internet many times. You just remove the circuit board from the wiper motor and reheat some solder joints. GM used cold solder joints on some components and the joints have a habit of failing after a while. http://groups.google.com/groups/sear...han+race+wiper This link should help you find how to fix it
