Oil pump

Can anyone tell me how to remove the oil pan so I can change my oil pump? Its a 2000 dakota w/ v6, 4wd. There doesn't seem to be enough room to get the pan down. Any help would be appreciated.

Yes I'm in my backyard and its on jacks. There doesn't seem to be enough room in between the oil pan and the front axle to manuver the pan down. Is there anyone who knows what to do?

Re: Oil pump

If you have an engine hoist hook up to the engine then unbolt the engine mounts and gradually pick up be careful and don't break anything. You can try a hydraulic jack under the harmonic balancer or under the front of the transmission. Auto zone may rent a hoist. Some people use a cable ratchet hooked to a tree.
You will need around 6 inchs of clearance. Sometimes you can get a wrench and your hand in and remove the strainer.
Be careful and don't get hurt I would rent a hoist.

Re: Oil pump

Thanks rhandwor. I had to lower the front axle, raise the engine from the balancer. Then remove the starter and transmission to axle mounting bracket to get the flywheel cover off. The pan came right off after that. Oil pumped changed and screen cleaned and put back together. Thanks again.
Rest this masterhec0!
