transmission :(

I have a 94 explorer, earlier when I was on my way home, I stopped at a red light. When I went to go again, it would not go into gear, I checked the fluid and it wasn't showing any, so I added some. It then ran fine, for about 1000 feet or so, and did the same again, again I added more to it and it got me almost home, about a mile away, it coasted into the driveway. It is acting like it is in neuteral, wont shift into reverse or drive, If I let it sit a few minutes, it'll go right into gear, but not for long. I minute ago, I started it, put it into reverse, and let it sit with the p-brake on, it was making a strange noise, and eventually slipped out of gear.

Anyone else ever experience this, or can give me some ideas as to what it's doing?

Thanks in advance..

I would appreciate it if you could call, the number is 904-683-3362, or post a reply.. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
