99 Taurus gas guage issue
Hi All, my niece has a 99 Taurus 3.0 FFV (former CT. State police vehicle) that keeps getting some funky gas guage readings. When I looked at it, it seemed to read just over half a tank so I replaced the sending unit and it still appeared to be accurate with just over half a tank. She says it started doing the same thing it was doing before that it would read full, then go empty and for no real reason. I asked if she was on hills and she stated it happened on flat surfaces. I believe I read that there is also a module near the radio that tends to fail, does anyone have any ideas? Thank you.

Re: 99 Taurus gas guage issue
I believe the module near the radio you are referring to is the flex fuel sensor module. There is also an anti-slosh module in the instrument cluster that could be causing the issue.
If you'd like to send me a private message with your request and an e-mail address for you that can accept PDF attachments, I can send you the PDF of the flex fuel sensor module connector (C2040) so you can compare the input from the fuel level sender (pin 3) with the output to the anti-slosh module (pin 6) which feeds the fuel guage. -Rod |
