I have a 1997 plymouth neon with 71,000 miles on it. I have had it for 6 months and had several problems with it but they were an easy fix. It has a manual 5 speed transmission. It's running rough. As your stopped, with it in neutral, it's idling at one rpm then jumping up to 1.5-2 rpms a couple of times then dropping back to one. Also, I was turning a corner in neutral last night and it reved to 3rpms and stuck for about 10-15 seconds then dropped back down. When your drving you can fell it surge a little the drop back almost like your pushing and letting up on the gas, only I'm not I have a stead push on the gas petal. I'm just not sure what it is so I tried the key flick and got this code: 12423255. Can anyone help me? I have 2 small kids and I'm scared to drive it. Please help!

Re: Please help, runny funny, key flick code
sounds like a throttle position sensor, But take it into any transmission place, and if your lucky they will put a scanner on it for nothing. They should beable to tell you, for there scanners not only check trannys, but all trouble codes. Can't find the code your speaking of.
Good Luck Wayne |

Could this be a disconnected vacuum hose from the master cylinder? I forgot to mention in my intial thread that I could also hear a sort of hissing/air noise when the surging happens as your driving at a steady rate of speed. I found another thread from 2004 and their problem was similar to mine. If that doesn't work I'll head for a transmission shop. Thanks so much, Kat

Re: Please help, running funny, key flick code
"That's a for sure+++". Make sure it is air and not a fluid leak under the car.
Best of luck, and yes you must have one shop, or dealer out there that will help. Good luck, from a Dad with bad keyboard problems. |

Re: Please help, runny funny, key flick code
You have 4 codes...12,32,42, and 55.
Code 12 - is battery has been disconnected within the last 50 key-on cycles (nothing to worry about) Code 32 - is a no-working EGR valve or bad transducer. (Need to be replaced together.) Code 42- Fuel pump relay control ckt, Auto shutdown relay control ckt, No ASD relay output voltage at PCM, Fuel level sending unit volts out of range, Fuel level unit No change over miles. (Relays may need to be replaced) Code 55 - end of codes
