I have a humming noise comin from the front of my 02 Grand Prix GT. There is 78000 miles on this It started about 4 months ago very low,it keeps getting louder and louder.2 months ago I changed out both front hubs, and later had a wheel alignment done. I tried different tires on the front but still no difference. When I turn hard to the right the noise is worse on the drivers side front.I went as far as removing the new hub on the drivers side and check for wear and seen none. Anyone with any ideas, its starting to drive me reallty nuts

Re: Humming in the front end of my 2002 GP
If the noise didn't change after changing the hubs, I'd look at the axle shafts next. If the noise changed, then got bad again, did you use an impact wrench to install or buy the A-Z white box cheapos when you installed the new hubs? If so, your new hubs could be bad.

Re: Humming in the front end of my 2002 GP
Normally, a humming noise indicates a bad hub bearing. When installing new hubs, you MUST torque the axle nut to specification with a hand torque wrench, NO IMPACT TOOLS. The axle nut torque pre-loads the bearing, so if it's not tight enough, it will allow lateral play in the hub bearing which will cause it to be noisy. If you overtighten it, it will bind and be noisy. If you use an impact wrench, the hammering action imparts small dents in the bearing race from the rollers, making it noisy. Do you see a pattern here? As I stated in an earlier relpy, if the hubs were changed and the exact same noise is there, then it's possible an axle shaft/CV joint is bad. But if the noise changed or came back again shortly after changing the hubs, it could still be the hub if you installed a cheapo Chinese hub or didn't follow proper proceedure when installing them.
