no reverse in my zx2

I need some help,my zx2 will not go in reverse or first gear.I have drive and overdrive and the tranny shifts through all the gear fine(except first ) ive been driving the car and everything is good.I know there are module several of them on the tranny and i was wondering if one of them could be bad.The tranny fluid isnt burnt. It just seems like an electrical problem like the module or solinoid isnt working.Any one with some info please feel free to tell me .Thanks

Re: no reverse in my zx2

solenoids are located on the valve body and according to the dealership here have to be bought as an assembly with a new valve body. I lost OverDrive so I'm in a similiar situation.

Re: no reverse in my zx2

Normally the solenoids are purchased separately from the valve body. I am not a transmission man but I replaced the valve body on my AOD and it wasn't a bad job.
I cleaned and checked the valve body and installed a new solenoid pack on my E40D and the solenoid or removing the valve body wasn't bad don't try to clean the valve body without a parts washer or manual.
The valve body must have a factory defect and you have to buy both.
The valve body is flat about an 1 inch thick and 8"X10" size. it has many small bolts you need a 1/4 ratchet metric set and 1/4 torx drive set. After the fluid is drained wipe off and look over your new unit and what needs to come out.
Some bolts are a different length and you have to watch carefully. You will need a gasket to reinstall. I use 4 longer bolts so the gasket is definately sitting properly slide it up and start a few of the correct bolts and then remove the long bolts. This gasket has many holes and it has to be setting properly. This is why I use 4 - 3 1/2 long bolts to get it in place.
Go to ford and ask to look at it before you buy it if you are scared pay to get it done. Ford recommends to torque the bolts with a 1/4 inch torque wrench.

Re: no reverse in my zx2

Some new info on trannys for zx2 check the tranny fluid regulary.Seems my tranny lines where leaking causing me to lose tranny fluid could be why i lost reverse and first gear.Ive rarley ever checked tranny fluid in any of my cars so if you own an escort just check it every once in awhile.
