Re: Hobby Search Waiting time (1999.co.jp)

Within Japan, it takes only 1-2 days, because the country is small. Hobby Search uses EMS, and it typically takes 3 days between Japan and the US.

Some details on my recent EMS package.

*Foreign Acceptance, August 16, 2006, 9:57 am, JAPAN
*Foreign International Dispatch, August 16, 2006, 4:28 pm, TOKYO, JAPAN
*International Arrival, August 17, 2006, 1:38 pm, SAN FRANCISCO
*Out of Customs, August 17, 2006, 4:14 pm
*Enroute, August 18, 2006, 6:30 am, HOUSTON, TX
*Arrival at Unit, August 18, 2006, 9:27 am, HOUSTON, TX
*Delivered, August 18, 2006, 10:39 am, HOUSTON, TX

10:00 am on Aug 16 in Japan is 8 pm on the 15th at the Central Standard Time, so the package took approximately 2 days and 15 hours.

LOL, My thoughts exactly. 2.5days H&S seems pretty fast. Just wish that some of the online stores I ship at had easier-to-browse websites.

Re: Hobby Search Waiting time (1999.co.jp)

Please, keep in mind that that info doesn't include order process time, but only the shipping time. From my experience, actual process time varies, and can be 1-3 days (I've only ordered in-stock items), but Hobby Search (and my preferred Rainbow Ten) has a shorter process time than Hobby Link Japan.

EMS is online traceable, and insured up to 20,000 yen with no additional charge. I just pulled the info from the USPS website, because Japanese and US postal services share their tracking info (the same info is available in both Japanese and English on the Japanese postal service website).

Although EMS may sound expensive, if your package doesn't fit the small packet limitation of 2.0 kg, EMS offers much better service than SAL.

Suppose your package weighs 3.0 kg, SAL will cost 5000 yen, while EMS is 5400 yen. The difference is only 400 yen, and that 400 yen is the exact amount you may add to insure your SAL up to 20,000 yen. That means, at 3.0 kg, which probably ships 3-4 plastic kits, SAL and EMS cost the same, but EMS is much faster.
