2004 Cavalier Tranny Prob!
My 2004's warranty just went out about 3000 miles ago and now my tranny is slipping. Looked for a dip stick and couldn't find one. Is there anything I can do before spending a bunch of money taking it to a shop? Thanks for replies in advance!

I think the most recent cars are built so that you won't be able to work on them yourself. So you will have to bring it to the shop and spend all of your hard earned money just to get your car fixed, which is a necesity in today's fast paced world. I am having some tranny probs with my 04 automatic cav. It seems to not want to shift into 4th gear, and runs at really high rpms. It did not do this a week ago. The only thing that I have done to it within the last week is to change the fuel filter and change the rear brakes. Can any one help me out too? Thanks

 I am having tranny probs with my automatic 2004 cav. It seems as though it is getting enough gas, however it seems to not want to shift into 4th gear. I can speed up to 45 mph, then if I press on the accelerator, the rpms will go up to 4,000-5,000. It did not do this a week ago and has gotten worse through out the week. The only thing I have done to it is change the fuel filter and rear brakes. What can I do? By the way I live in Italy and parts are not as readily available as they are in the states. Thanks.

there is no dipstick for checking fluid level. the plug for checking level is located under car right above right front corner of transaxle oil pan,near the engine drain plug.so you have to get car up inthe air and level .
The fluid has to be operating temp. With foot on the brake you should run trans thru the gears finishing up in park. Take the plug out some fluid should drip out or at least the level should be at the bottom of the check hole. if not you can put fluid in thru filler cap on top of trans. put fluid in till it reaches bottom of check hole. if the fluid in trans is dark reddish-brown or smells burnt you should have it and filter changed.

Thanks for the reply. Is it hard to change the tranny filter? The reason I ask is because I live in Italy and it takes anywhere from a week to 2 weeks to get parts here from the states. Could the reason why it doesn't want to shift into 4th gear is due to a gummed up tranny linkage cable? Thanks again for your help.
