Exclamation 1988 Buick Century Timing change=more problems

So, the timing in our car went out so we took it all apart and got it back together. Anyway, it wont start.! We checked and made sure it was lined up and the #1 piston was up also! We even took it apart again to rotate the bottom gear. To make a long story short, its been apart about 6 times. Whats next?

Re: 1988 Buick Century Timing change=more problems

Sorry, about that! its a 3.8L V6 and The thing is, after we took it apart and messed with it again we got it to start, now it wont stay running and theres a pretty good leak ONLY when its running! Oil! And if you know anything about trannys...is it going bad or what does it mean when it had troubles only shifting to 2nd?

I have a similar vehicle that has a 4t60 transaxle, that is a four speed automatic transaxle, with the fourth gear being OD.

I had a similar shift problem, replaced the vacuum modulator. Fixed my problem. There is a vacuum line that runs from the modulator to the throttle body, when the diaphragm in the modulator ruptured, the vacuum sucked tranny fluid into the throttle body, and because the air filter housing was lower than the throttle body, the bottom of the air filter housing filled up with transaxle fluid.

On my vehicle, the modulator is on the outside front of the transaxle, not hard to replace.

I can't guarantee that replacing the modulator will fix your shift problem.
